2024 Annual Meeting

Our Annual Meeting will be held at the Boone Superior Court I at 3:00 PM. The proposed slate of officers for the 2024 year will be as follows: 

             President - Christina Pace

             Vice President - Riley Parr

             Secretary/Treasurer - Jesse Smith

             Social Chair - Keenan Wilson (Newly appointed)

If anyone else has interest in joining the bar association board or wishes to run for any position in particular please feel free to reach out so we know if there will be a need for a formal election at the meeting vs approval of the proposed slate of officers.

If you have any new business for the bar association to consider, please reach out in advance so that we may plan accordingly.

Our annual dinner will be held later that evening at Moontown Brewing Company in Whitestown at 6:00 PM. Saddle up for a great Western themed event. Hambone’s Trivia from 7:00 - 9:00. $30 per person or $50 per couple.

2020 Annual Dinner for Members - Derby Dinner & Casino Night

Break out the mint juleps and flowery hats for this year’s Dinner at the Derby, hosted by the Boone County Bar Association. This year's theme is the Kentucky Derby. Recommended attire is fashionably casual (ideas: sun dresses, bow ties, big flowery hats, seersucker suits, pastels, linen and Oxfords).

After dinner, guests are encouraged to join us for live horse racing. Gaming cages will be set up to take your bets and a professional handicapper will be on site to breakdown the fundamentals of the game.

We will also be bringing back our live-table Casino. This year we are featuring blackjack tables, craps, and roulette.  Gaming chips will be provided and no cash bets will be permitted. At the end of the night we will be giving out prizes through a ticket raffle. 

Cocktail hour starts at 6:00 p.m. and dinner is served at 7:00 p.m. After 10:00 p.m. the bar will transition to a cash. If you have any dietary restrictions or require a vegetarian meal, please contact the bar at boonecountybar@gmail.com and let us know.

The BCBA is hosting its annual Continuing Legal Education Seminar at the Boone County Circuit Courtroom in Lebanon, Indiana. This event will take place on Nov. 2nd, and is open to BCBA Members and non-Members.

Mid-Year Membership Deadline

Mid-Year Bar Applications are due October 16th by 4:30 p.m. 

Due to a recent Bylaws amendment, the Association is accepting mid-year membership applications for anyone who would like to join. There are now three classes of membership:

General - available to any licensed Indiana attorney who is in good standing with the Indiana Supreme Court. General Membership is $75.00*. The mid-year rate is $25.00 and is only available till October 16th. 

Emeritus - available to any person who was previously a member in good standing and has been a member of the association for at least 20 years.  Emeritus Membership is $50.00*. The mid-year rate is $17.00 and is only available till October 16th. 

Law Student - available to any person who is a student at an accredited law school, or who has graduated from an accredited law school and is not a licensed attorney in any US state or territory and is in the process of seeking admission to practice in Indiana. Law Student Membership is $15.00*. The mid-year rate is $5.00 and is only available till October 16th. 

Membership in the association provides access to important information for those practicing in Boone County. The opportunity for members only events, including an Annual Dinner. Reduced registration fees and priority for the Annual Boone County CLE Program usually held in November.

Crisis in Our Neighborhood:  

Battling the Opioid Epidemic TOGETHER

Attendees will hear a powerful Keynote presentation from Andrew McKenna, JD, author of Sheer Madness: From Federal Prosecutor to Federal Prisoner. Mr. McKenna’s presentation chronicles his journey from U.S. Airman, U.S. Marine Corps Captain, JAG Attorney and Justice Department prosecutor to opioid and heroin addict, bank robber, and ultimately federal prisoner. Mr. McKenna is an expert on the opioid epidemic and its devastating effects on communities, drawn from his own personal and professional experiences with addiction, the justice system, the prison industrial complex and leadership.

The Keynote address will be followed by a panel presentation focusing on efforts of the Boone County medical and legal communities to address the opioid crisis locally, an educational presentation from the Boone County Health Department on Narcan and the annual youth presentation, this year delivered by the young women of Teen Challenge.

This is an important event for law enforcement, teachers, community youth workers, clergy, parents, EVERYONE! We need you there! Please make plans to attend.

The Boone County Sheriff Department, including Sheriff Mike Nielsen and Capt. Jeff Heck will be providing the BCBA with a presentation of the new jail visitation system at the Boone County Jail. Attorneys will have the option to use the new system from their office and schedule visits at their convenience. The presentation will also include a tour for those who are interested. Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC)

In Our Own Backyard

Attendees will learn how to recognize a victim of human or sex trafficking; understand what services are the most beneficial, what is available in your county and the State of Indiana, and how your colleagues are tackling this difficult industry.  Indiana is making strides in addressing this issue statewide.  The current status of legislation will be discussed, together with the system response.  Our speakers include Judge Kimberly Dowling, a pioneer in bringing education on the topic statewide with a focus on the importance of judicial intervention, prevention and appropriate placement and treatment alternatives, Indiana State Police Trooper Roger Logsdon, Tracy McDaniel of Restored Inc., an intervention and advocate specialist for victims, and Dr. Robyn Eubank, Director of Psychological Services at Youth Opportunity Center, Muncie Indiana, who will run the new YOC facility specializing in placement and treatment of victims of commercial sexual exploitation opening in fall 2016.
